Egyptian Calendar 2009

The Egyptians determine the time and the seasons, according to the growth of the Nile River. For them there were three seasons: the flood, which was roughly from July to September, the appearance of the land, which was from October until February, and the drought season, from February to June beginning around again.

Because of these data, and real scholars in the field, the Egyptians, was born, the solar calendar with three hundred and sixty five days a year. This more than anything was used for agricultural activities. Even from the observation of the moon, the Egyptians divided the year into twelve months, with thirty days each month.

The New Year for them is when Sirius appears on the horizon in the east… before dawn. Indicates that the spring ends and that there will be progress in the river Nile. Then to be able to bring the lunar year with the emergence of Syrian, astronomers added 5 more days each year. They proposed, but failed, to add one day every 4 years for the year coincide with the solar cycle.

One of the most important contributions of the Egyptians was to divide the day of 24 hours, in two equal parts of 12 hours each section. This stemmed from the departure and sunset, that the duration of hours varied each season.
